Pippa Diary 26 Oct 12

Hi Mum, I had a great week, on Tuesday I went for a walk with Louis, the. Today I went to Nayland with Hansi, Dritta and Toby, we couldn't go in our normal field because there were big brown and black beasts in there so we played in another field for an hour and there was a great big puddle in it, this is a picture of me running through it.

Then we met a big black dog and sniffed him for a bit then went home.

Louis Diary w/c 15 Oct 12

Hi Mum, I had a good week this week, on Tuesday Pippa decided to join us, and Rachael had me on a longer lead so I was able to jog a little bit which was fun, then Wednesday and Thursday I had Rachael to myself, I was feeling a little anxious the last couple of walks, Rachael thinks its because sometimes the kids at the school go jogging round where we walk and I get a little frightened as there are so many of them, but Rachael assures me that they won't, I don't know how she knows this!!

Now I'm going to have a sleep and wait for you to come back.

See you later

Pippa Diary 12 Oct

Hi Mum, I had two lovely walks this week, on Tuesday I went with Louis which was good fun and I was very well behaved then on Friday I went with Toby. At the start if the walk I refused to walk next to the children's playground, Rachael wondered if something had happened there, so we went a different way. I had a lovely run with Toby, boy can he run, I had a job to keep up.

Anyway, see you soon

Hi Mum, I was really good today Rachael said, I went with my old pals, Hansi, Dritta and Toby, they can all run faster than me, we splashed around in the little stream, didn't meet any other dogs today, but that's ok, cause we had the whole of stoke-by-nayland to ourselves.

Pippa Diary 29 Jun 12

Hi Mum, I went to Nayland for a walk today with Hansi Dritta and Toby, had an excellent time, played about in the river which cooled us all down, even Rachael came in with us.  Toby rolled in sick and he had an orange neck which was really smelly on the way home.

Pippa Diary 15 June 12

It was just me and Rachael today, sorry Rachael and I.

We had a lovely summer walk, Rachael said that I was being a monkey today, as I was a bit of a wanderer. It's just not the same as when my friends come out with me so I've made Rachael do her best to bring my friends. I still had a good time though.

See you soon.

Hi mum, I went out with Cobber today and nearly caught a pheasant which was trapped in a hedge, but Rachael got there before I could tuck in!

I didn't get too muddy today just a little wet but Rachael had a towel in the car so she made sure I was clean.

Rachael trusts me completely off lead now which is wonderful :)

Hi Mum, I was a professional good boy today, I went into the water at every opportunity because it was sooooo hot. Then we played in the river again because it was really cool, I exchanged a few strong words with a young smelling dog....Rachael told me after it was a border collie. Then we took it real easy in the way home :)

Pippa Diary 22 May 12

Hi Mum, sorry I didn't tell you what I got up to last week, I had a really great week though, met a new friend on Friday called Stanley, he's a miniature dachshund, we all went to Arger fen together.

Today, goodness, I'm having such a great time, when Rachael picked me up i asked her to take me to Cobbers place, he's got such a great garden, it's absolutely massive and completely enclosed, it has an orchard and lots of different parts to explore, so we hung out there for ages and since Cobber has a heart problem he can't go on proper walks now so we had a great time tearing around the garden :)

See you soon mum x

Harvey diary 3 may 12

Oh my goodness mum, ok so you know I always say what a great time I have have, well today topped it, it was awesome, we went to our usual field but it was completely underwater, I had such a great time splashing around, Rachael for reasons best known to herself was saving worms from drowning, she kept throwing them into the bushes, I tried to catch them but couldn't. Then we walked across the field and I got to play in the water which was great, then we walked by the river but had to turn back cause we couldn't get any further.

I'm exhausted now, had such a fun time though :) have included some pics Rachael took of me.

Harvey Diary 10 May 12

Hi mum, just been on a nice walk with Rachael and I have one question, where did all the water go, I got really excited about splashing around like I did last week but it's all gone, it's left loads of great smells behind.

I was a bit rough with Rachael today I think because she put me on my lead much earlier today :( I will try harder next time!

Hi Mum and Dad,I had a great time today, I met some new friends, apparently their names are Harley and Lily, but I could just identify them by their smell, you humans are so strange naming things when you can just smell them :)

Anyway, we went around Alton water and I was the only one who knew where we were going, so I led them to all the great spots for smells and paddles in the water, they thought I was great, we had a really good game me and Harley on the way back too.

I ate all my dinner as well like a good girl and Rachael said I was super good on the walk :)

Ronnie and Reggie's Diary 28 Mar 12

Hi mum, we had a great day today, we knocked two pints of milk out of Rachael's hands as soon as we saw her, it was soooo funny, so because of that we got to play in the garden all day. Rachael brought out beds outside and a little blanket, it was like we were camping :)

We've just been fed and are now asleep inside, because we're really tired. This is a picture of Reggie showing you our camp site :)

Pippa diary 27 Mar 12

Hi mum, went out today with Dritta, met a dog and another dog (Rachael says one was a Scottish terrier and the other a Labrador) I dont know what that means but they smelt good :)

Oh and me and Dritta, sorry Dritta and I, found a dead rabbit but Rachael wouldn't let me near it, she can be such a spoil sport at times. So I made do with a few feathers I found, maybe from the rabbit...do rabbits fly mummy?

This is a picture of me and dritta when we were running towards Rachael, pointless really all I got was a pat on the head, why do you humans do that? My head is filled with questions today.

Hi mum and dad, Juno and I had a great time with Rachael today, and we were in our best behaviour like you told us to be. I'm not sure how Rachael knew that I like sausages but she did because she have me some when I was being good, and she knew that Juno has liver....amazing what you humans know about us!

These are a couple of pictures of us on our walk.
We're now both completely chilled in the conservatory waiting for you to return. See you soon

Harvey's Diary 22 Mar 12

Hi mum, I was full of beans today and Rachael said I was a very good boy.  This is me with a stick we were playing with, then I went for a bit of a paddle in the river.

Rachael thinks it will be a good idea if my diary goes onto her blog, I don't know what blog means mum but Rachael says my identity will be protected and other people will know what I get up to.  If you agree she will direct you to the page each week :)

Rachael's also coming over tonight to see me, I hope that's ok?

Cliff Hanger

As Dog Listeners, we often use the following analogy with dog owners who are also parents....'If you child was sitting at a cliff edge and the only way of getting to your child is to walk bare foot over broken glass, would you do it?'  I have never experienced a parent hesitating before answering!

By using this analogy, we are able to help owners realise why their dog is behaving as it is, for example pulling on the lead, despite the halti, harness, check chain put on it, they will literally work through the pain because the job of leader is more important than the pain.  It's so important, therefore, to relieve the dog of it's leadership position, then it can relax and look to you for help.

Take a look at this enchanting story of a mother doing just that.

Clinging for dear life to the side of a vertical cliff, the tiny lion cub cries out pitifully for help.

His mother arrives at the edge of the precipice with three other lionesses and a male.  The females start to clamber down together but turn back daunted by the shear drop.  Eventually one single factor determine which of them will risk her life to save the youngster - Motherly Love.

The drama begins: The mother arrives at the edge of the cliff as her son cries out for rescue after being trapped when he slipped.

On the brink: Four lionesses look over the edge before aborting their rescue mission because of the sheer drop.
Slowly, agonisingly, the big cat edges her way down towards her terrified son, using her powerful claws to grip the crumbling cliff side.
One slip from her and both animals could end up dead at the bottom of the ravine.

Just as the exhausted cub seems about to fall, his mother circles beneath him and he is snatched up in her jaws.
She then begins the equally perilous journey back to the top.
Minutes later, they arrive and she gives the frightened creature a consoling lick on the head.

The dramatic rescue, captured by wildlife photographer Jean-Francois Largot, was played out in Kenya's Massai Mara game reserve.

Another successful ABc's 4 Dogs

Locals of Ipswich have just completed the 4 weekly workshops ABc's 4 Dogs which brings me enormous pride that so many more dogs have been helped by these great people who attended the workshops.

I received some wonderful comments back and wanted to share some with you....

"It has been great to come along to learn about dog behaviour without the pressures of taking my dog with me.  It has given me and my family an insight into how our dog views the human world and given me valuable skills in dealing with him, it has made the experience of having a dog a much happier one.

I would highly recommend this course"  Paula

"Super, 1st class" John

"I have put Rachael's suggestions to practice and 'it works'.  This will help me greatly in the future" Sue

The next set of workshops begin on 11 February at the Leavenheath Village Hall
